Waxahachie, the county seat of Ellis County, is on Interstate Highway 35E and U.S. Highway 287, thirty miles south of Dallas in the central part of the county. Waxahachie Texas embraces its historic background maintaining the older architecture while keeping employment in the city highly oriented toward the local industry such as Owens Corning, Georgia-Pacific, and neighboring Texas Industries. Residents in Waxahachie take advantage of the opportunities offered by the Lakeview Camp and Conference Center. The Center offers a swimming pool, boating, sports (including ropes courses), a playground, The Breeze Water Park, or you can simply relax along the lakefront. Waxahachie Texas is served by Waxahachie Independent School District, one of the top employers in the city. The district has five elementary schools, two middle schools, one ninth grade campus, one high school and Waxahachie Global High. WISD had half of its campuses achieve recognized ratings, while the rest of the schools were rated academically acceptable by TEA. Dunaway Elementary School and the Waxahachie Ninth Grade Academy both are top-rated public schools and received a nine out of ten on the GreatSchools Rating system. There are also private schools to educate the students of Waxahachie, including Cornerstone Christian School, St. Joseph Catholic School and Waxahachie Preparatory Academy. For higher education in the area, Navarro College has one of their four campuses located here to serve the community.
